Know this phrase: TRIGGER DATA. Trigger data includes the name, phone number, and address of consumers whose credit report was pulled by a mortgage company. Credit bureaus (Transunion, Equifax, and Experian) sell trigger data to other mortgage companies. This results in mortgage applicants being bombarded by spam phone calls from other lenders just after they start the mortgage process.

HOW TO AVOID THIS? Before you allow a mortgage company to pull your credit report, call the 3 credit bureaus and tell them you don’t want them to sell your data. Or, tell your lender to keep your phone number off the loan application when they pull your credit report so that it doesn’t become available to the credit bureaus to sell.
